Pitch 1: A seemingly lighthearted story about a young man navigating his everyday life, filled with moments of joy with his friends and girlfriend. Only to reveal toward the end that his smile hides his stress and depressive thoughts, leading to an emotional end.
We want to do this film because it will be a challenge to create. In comparison to the film we did last year, this film portrays a deep and meaningful topic. The lighthearted tone in the beginning allows the audience to connect with the protagonist, making the final reveal more impactful emotions. It also challenges societal perceptions of happiness, encouraging viewers to look beyond surface level appearances. Everybody goes through impactful events at least some point in their life, and most don't share these with the loved ones around them. This pitch is hopefully aimed to highlight the idea of never truly knowing what is going on in another's life, no matter how close you are to them.
Pitch 2: A grieving individual, haunted by traumatic loss, navigates a city filled with memories of their past. Ending in a symbolic confrontation on a rooftop where they take their first step towards healing.
This pitch offers a cinematic and emotional narrative, allowing for vivid visuals and sound design to convey the protagonists grief and journey towards healing. The combination of flashbacks and present-day scenes create a layered story that immerses the viewer in the protagonist's trauma. However, its success relies heavily on subtle, emotionally driven acting performances, which we are not fully certain we can produce.
Final Decision:
We decided to combine the two pitches, with our final pitch being "A grieving individual, haunted by a traumatic loss, navigates his everyday life, filled with moments of joy with his friends and girlfriend. Only to reveal towards the end that these traumatic events are truly affecting him, leading to an emotional end."
Decision Process:
We appreciated certain aspects of each pitch. We enjoyed the idea of pitch two, with the traumatic flashbacks of the loss of a loved one, cutting into the rooftop scene, this gives us the opportunity to portray a deep message, while also utilizing cinematic techniques to make the film more aesthetically appealing. Additionally, we both were dead set on the idea of pitch 1, you never truly know what is going on in someones life, no matter how close you are to them. We hope to seamlessly combine these two pitches and make a film that is emotionally driven, in addition to aesthetically pleasing.
